However...Mike Nesmith is a very close second...VERY CLOSE!!!

He invented country/rock as far as I'm concerned. He wrote many wonderful songs for a lot of people. Truth be told, a lot of Monkee songs that are my favorites were written by Michael Nesmith-especially love "Mary, Mary" and "The Girl That I Knew Somewhere"
