Nez played live (one song) at the Monterey Jazz Festival back in September 2008 and once Virtually live online at Videoranch 3D that same weekend (Again one song)

I have seen him virtually live at VR3d several times but he is usually not performing but he interacts and chats with us there.

Oh.. One word to watch out for in the next few weeks to come.....

I've noticed a few posts since 2006 saying that they've seen Nez live. Is he touring? Is he playing live?

Does anyone have video of this? Does Nez sell any of these?

But that Black Box represented a double-edged sword. When the Monkees followed the original formula,like their early albums,they went straight to the top. But when they broke out of the Black Box and did it all themselves,like their final four albums and their HEAD film and 33&1/3 Special,they failed to reach the success they had enjoyed.

I don't think Kirschner ever dreamed that the Monkees would rebel and want to do their own songs and play their own instruments. I have a feeling Kirschner believed that they would be thankful for what was being offered to them,which was being puppets.

And Micky keeps making that quote about Leonard Nimoy actually becoming a Vulcan.

I think the fact that each of the four Monkees had talent when they were first hired has alot to do with them becoming restless and wanting to expand their horizons.

Agreed All.

We all know they were talented and what they became. The proved it! Ya don't gotta convince me!

The difference is between them & the Beatles is that many in the industry and many in the media thought (and there are those still around today) that the Monkees were supposed to be nothing more than a TV show. Puppets on a string.

What is the amazing thing is 4 guys brought...

By today's standards, all you have to do is get a group of people who can sing and know a few dance moves, and voila--instant band. The Monkees could do that from Day One.

Everyone points to 'Headquarters' as the time the Monkees became a band. I think it was a bit earlier. I think it was the very first time the four Monkees got up onstage infront of their fans and had to do it all themselves. That's when I think they realized that they could do things themselves.
Too darn bad they fractured after 'Headquarters' and started using studio musicians again on their own recordings and put em together and said it was a Monkees album.

As Peter pointed out in one of the DVD commentaries, the first time the guys jammed together on the set, people got up and danced.

So, it really all depends on how you define a band, I guess.

It always seemed to me that it was initially four guys paid to act as a band on a tv series. Period. But then the talents of those four guys started to prosper and grow and that is when they worked to become a band.

However, whereas the Beatles were always "real" band or musical act all of which kind of grew up together in the same neighborhood, remember the Monkees are a unique anomaly in the fact that they started out as a fictional band. They were just characters on a TV series and to sell hit songs set up my a music machine and they were originally not meant to be more than that.
