Monkeegroupies:
It was unusually fanastic! While it was advertised as "Monkee Memories" and not just a regular concert--it was a concert with alot more. David had pics and videos of his early years up on screen and he would show them from time to time. My favorite was a part called "Horseman" and it showed David with a horse at different times throughout his years. Digpast was included and showed that when he had won the race. (For those that don't know it Digpast had to be put down later due to an injury). While he sang "Let Them Be Little" they had a video of The Monkees entertaining kids on the beach and a bunch of them in The Monkee Mobile. Film clips I'm sure I saw hundreds of times--but saw them in a new way during that song. Once again I sat with an audience of "first timers" and enjoyed every moment of it. There was a young women (maybe 17) sitting with her mother laughing hysterically to David's jokes. At one point a few ladies had gotten up to the stage wanting a hug and David played right into it--threw his jacket down and "got ready" for the hugs and kisses. I was in my seat laughing and amazed how quickly David played into it all. To those who "use to go" to every concert they could but no longer do. Don't think for a minute David doesn't notice. When I got up to the table for his autograph he commented that he hadn't seen me "in ages". While it's only been about a year it probably was "ages" considering I use to go many times a year. I explained to him it was due to the economy and that most of the concerts weren't on the East Coast. He seemed ok with that. But the point is he knows who attends his concerts, more so than I ever thought. (I did see him last November and March on stage but since he didn't do a meet and greet he wouldn't known I was there). Felipe wasn't on the drums and Aviva wasn't on her saxaphone. The drummer was a woman named "Ann" and when David introduced the band he introduced her but stated he didn't know much about her except she was a friend of a friend in another band. She was very good!! Yes, it was very long drive home and I'm heading for bed! Gail

Wow, this sounds like an exceptional time! I hope he keeps this new format for his concerts for a while. I definitely want to check this out. Thanks for the
details!

That sounds like a great show Gail! I hope he does a couple east coast memory shows. I think it's amazing that he can remember his "regulars"
like that. He must see so many new people each month-I can't remember people I met yesterday!
I hope the bands not changing though-Aviva's so
nice and I like watching Felipe spin the drum sticks and spit the water PS1 WORDS OF WISDOM

Haha yeah Sally, I know what you mean....as what you said just gave me a crystal clear memory of Micky sitting at the side of the stage strummin' a guitar
during a scene in Pippin when I was in MI to see it!

Yeah, I had the same problem when I was doing the James Lee Stanley dates a while back. I edited your post and stuck in a manual hyperlink. That seems to work.

beenaround4ever wrote:Gail, thanks so much for your review! I'm glad this special format went over well and hope that he continues to do stuff like this. I also think it's wonderful that he really remembers his fans like that! That says a lot about him, I think. I only got a chance to meet him once, back in the early 90s, and at the last two concerts of his that I went to (which were both within the past two years), he didn't do meet-and-greets, so he wouldn't know me at all. Did you tell him that you went to those two concerts where he didn't do meet-and-greets? I think he would be glad to know that, and perhaps it would also make him consider doing meet-and-greets more regularly if he realized that he might be missing out on seeing some of his longstanding fans by eliminating meet-and-greets at so many venues. I hope everything's okay with Aviva and Felipe and that they will both be back. SGS7, many thanks to you for posting the link to those pictures! There were some really wonderful ones in that bunch! Gail, can you explain about the ones where Davy is lying on the floor with the flowers? I'll bet there's a story there, for sure!

I'm kinda late on this topic, but I was there! What an amazing show!!! It had been too long since I'd been to a Davy concert. Needless
to say, I'm still on cloud nine! Thanks for sharing the pics, SGS7! It's so great seeing them and reliving such an awesome night over and over in my mind! LittleMetalBottletops wrote: Those pics were from the part she was referring to where he was "getting ready" for all those hugs and kisses! After he was done singing
(It's Nice to Be with You, I think), he laid down like he was exhausted from all that affection...haha! *c4d* aka *Crazy~P* And now, here he is, what is considered by some to be the world's best-looking midget...DAVID THOMAS JONES, baby! -Mike Now as long as you're just hanging there, pay attention. -Capt. I gave him the flowers, I hadn't done it in over a year. He gave me a kiss on the cheek and told the audience that I was a friend of his. When I left to go
back to my seat several ladies came out of their seats and filed up to get their kiss too. That's when he laid on the floor and "got himself"
set. I wasn't paying attention to the encore so I can't tell you the song.

beenaround4ever wrote:Awesome!!!! If he had said something like that about me (not that he'd have any reason to, but if he did, I guess...) I think I would have been the one on the floor!
Crazy4davy, it's good to hear that you had a chance to go to this concert and to have such a wonderful time too! And cool to know that Gail's flowers were so influential that even though you didn't know who she was at the time, her gift and its after-effects made such an impression on you, on many other fans, and even on David himself! |
