I would love to be your friend too Sara.
However, I don't do Myspace either I'm afraid. Too many sexual predators on there. I heard about one through Care2.com and he immediately got banned from Care2. His name was France Chorley and he goes after young teenage girls wanting to talk to them about sex and he's old enough to be their grandfather (can't remember his exact age, but he's disgusting).

I like myspace when I'm not receiving friend requests or messages from weirdos, which happens now and then, or getting into arguments with people I
don't even know, which happened twice with the same person. (This guy got mad at me and a few other people on his friends list for adding someone he
didn't like to our lists. I ended up deleting both of them from my friend list. Too weird.) Sometimes it reminds me of school, in some ways. People ask
to be your "friend", then dump you later on. So now I look more carefully at each profile I accept. I also put my personal photos on private except
for childhood photos.
It can be fun when it isn't annoying. I mostly use it to post photos, videos, quizzes. I have a photo album of just Monkees photos, for example. If
anyone wants to add as friends, I put the link on my Yuku profile. I don't sign in every day.

Somewhere on Monkeeland is a thread pertaining to myspace accounts, that several of us have posted on....I think it was about a year ago or something......can anyone find it?

I don't care much for MySpace, kinda clunky to navigate: I only go there to look up some bands I am not familiar with or even ones I like a lot. As with
anything, people need to be careful what they post online whereever, especially Social Networking websites like facebook, myspace, etc.

You are right. And what I have found is that a person has the ability to edit most everything on myspace. You can delete someone you don't know who wants
to friend you.
And that takes care of that!

Yeah, you just don't approve them/deny their request. That's what I do when I see a profile I don't like.

Upon getting a consensus from Monkeeland staff, a decision was made to remove the link to the France Chroley myspage page mentioned above. While we have no
idea wether the information about him is true, with ML being a family-friendly site, we don't want to advertise anywhere that somebody of a deviant nature
may be accessible. Thanks for your understanding.

I have a myspace and I never had any problems. My profile is set to private and no one has ever bothered me. I would never be stupid enough to accept someone
I don't know as a friend. Not only might they be a weirdo but you never know where a virus is lurking either. Just like everything else, you need to use
common sense. I can see how some young people may be in danger though. When you're young you think you're invincible and nothing will ever happen to
you. Did anyone every see that program with Chris Hansen where they trap child predators who show up to meet who they think are young kids they met on the
internet? It always kills me how stupid these idiots are that think a young girl or boy would actually ever want to have anything to do with a pathetic old
man!

Lots of people accept strangers as friends on myspace---adults and kids. It's a little creepy. There are other social networking sites too, like
Facebook. Myspace is the only one I've ever really liked. At first it seems like fun to chat with these people, but it really gets old fast. Like chat
rooms. Interesting at first, then it wears off. I learned my lesson. I've had good experiences with internet friends and not so good ones. I have some
really cool online buddies and we do trades, send e-mails, share blogs. But even so, I've never met any of them in person. They might be just as awesome
in person, but, I'm a worry wart by nature so, it scares me. You just don't know. One thing I really hate that I see a lot are creepy guys looking to
meet women. They are everywhere. I can think of two I came across that really bugged me.
Yep, I've seen that show. They are always the ugliest, nastiest guys, living in a complete fantasy world. I love when they get caught!! It's hilarious!! I still think it's fun to interact with strangers online (like here), and I'm even on myspace as I'm typing this, but to anyone thinking of using it--just be really cautious about what you share and who you choose for friends.

I guess I'm a little bothered by the whole "friending" thing on MySpace, Facebook, etc. Maybe I just have an old-fashioned sense of the word,
but I like to know a person-and have them know me-before I think of them as a friend. At least with the "friends" thing on yuku, I had some sense of
who you all were before when it was ezboard.
I must say, though, all the people I've met from this message board (Molly, Cindi and Tom) have been just great! |

lol, yeah I'm sure that happens a lot, especially with online dating. I can only imagine the disappointments.
I'd rather just be myself and stay away from that stuff, while keeping my privacy as much as possible. |

This is one of those tragic stories where this teen girl, aged 13, thought a 16-yr-old-"boy" who wanted to be her friend on MySpace pushed her to
commit suicide because he ended up "rejecting her". The boy was actually a neighbor, mother, who didn't care for the girl. Crazy story, but very

I agree that the internet can be a dangerous thing at times (like the example marnweb posted). I do have a Myspace account, but I hardly ever go on it
(although I do know I need to update my background image because they apparently the url must have changed since I created my page and now the page is hard to
read.) My fiance and I both have had our Myspace accounts hacked before though so I have a disclaimer saying that I won't add a person unless they send me
a message saying why they want to be my friend.
