I started this board on August 1st, 2000 because, at the time, there really wasn't a good, clean, fun place online for Monkees fans to gather and talk about the guys. The blue background here symbolizes one of my favorite Monkees albums, Pool It. Our banners and buttons have been made the fabulous roo and the equally fabulous Lizzy. Emoticon credit goes to Lizzy, Petey and Jen. My name is Mary, and I have already made a few posts, but I haven't posted here yet, and was wondering if I could ask a question. I was wondering how Monkeeland came about, in the beginning? Such a large and expansive organization, that has such a well-run heirarchy of moderators and such well-maintained rules had to come out of somewhere, a growing process of trial and error maybe... Or had all of you known each other before? I'm just amazed by the shear complexity of this board, and it has a feeling of intimacy despite it's large amount of members. I was also wondering what you guys used before this, and how long this has been around... I'm basically new to the web as a "Monkee" fan, I had gone to places before, but never regularly, so I was never "in the scene". Anyone who could tell me any kind of interesting information would be much appreciated! xoxo, Mary

I'm Lucy, the board OP and I think I can answer all of your questions. I started this board on August 1, 2000 because I couldn't find a good Monkees message board on the 'Net. I'd been going to 'Monkees-chat' a bit and posting on the Screen Gems board, but neither was what I was looking for. So, I started this place, asked people from both of those places to check this out, and it just grew from there. Everybody that posts here, I either met here or in the old VR3D chatroom at Videoranch. The rules have been trial and error for the most part. I started with a basic list of "dos" and don'ts" and we've added to and revised as we've needed to. Thank you for all of the kind words about the board. The admins and mods all work very hard to keep this place nice and running smoothly. Enjoy yourself here! I have been a Nez fan since time began (1967). I have Tropical Campfires and Live at the Britt which I think are totally fab. I also have both the hardback and audio CD of LSHNS and Nez kindly signed both for me (with my name). I have also exchanged e-mails with Jason on a number of occasions and have all three of his CDs, and yes, he is the spitting image of Mike. I have seen two of the Monkees live at Wembley (Davy and Micky) - it was one of the best shows I have seen (if only Nez had been there). I hope one day Nez will come over to London and do some shows (it would be fantastic if he could do something with Jason). Hope to talk to you soon luv Vivien xxxxx

I was a pre-teen when the Monkees 1st hit the scenes and I have always been a "believer" in the fellas. After all these moons, we're still here talking about a cool and talented band.
