Posts: 193 (06/22/08 11:11 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Does anyone here collect dolls? I collect Barbies and Cabbage Patch Kids. Also have some Strawberry Shortcake dolls. Cabbage Patch Kids are my most favorite. I grew up with all these dolls, but CPKs hold the most memories for me. I still remember my mom and I picking out the first one I got at Toys R Us, only to walk around the store and come back to all the dolls being gone. We got there just in time to beat the crowd. I was 6 years old. I learned quite a bit with my dolls by my side. I took them everywhere with me. Just to share a few...That summer, we went on vacation where I made a new friend who was about my age. I let her play with my doll. We had a lot of fun together. Then she got one of her own, and wouldn't let me touch it. I couldn't understand why she acted like that, so I got upset and ran to our room, crying. She and her mother came to try to make amends, but it was too little too late. They were snobs. I never talked to that girl again lol. I remember when I was friends with these twin girls in our neighborhood, and they brought their dolls over to my house. We were in the backyard, playing, and their older brother came over threatening to beat up our dolls. I have a bunch of the mass-produced ones and one of the Xavier originals, which I got at Babyland General in NYC in the mid-80s. My aunt took me there and we saw a "birth" of a Cabbage Patch lol. I still have the paperwork and nurses hats that we got, too. Important life lessons learned indeed. Do you guys remember the pandemonium when they first came out? News Angela

A fellow employee had come in during a Christmas season and said she saw a group of wealthy Westside mamas at the local swank mall literally FIGHTING - meaning with slaps and scratches and hair-snatching - over the last of a rapidly-dwindling supply of Cabbage Patch Kids. One wonders if these wenches just wanted to make sure their kids got what they wanted or if it was more of a personal status symbol! ^^^^^^^^^^^^ My fansite: The Monkees @ FashionState.Com Can you dig it?

My sis-in-law had a couple of them. Cabbage Patch and the other thing I remember people fought over were Beanie Babies...McDonald's was in on selling them, and I recall reading local news reports of line of cars waiting to enter the parking lots to get a hold of one of those! I do have a couple of Ashton Drakes, and many Madame Alexanders including the Little Women - a couple of different sets. But my main collection is antique bisques. S&H, AM, etc. I have a doll room. They are mostly standing or sitting on the floor, I would love to have glass cabinets for them. Sally B.

I vowed that I wouldn't be one of those moms waiting for the stores to open and fighting over them. My daughter was 3 at the time and someone I knew was lucky enough to get her hands on two one day and she sold one to me. My daughter was thrilled! When my son was around the same age it was the Power Rangers! I did end up looking around for those darned things! My daughter also had a massive troll collection. Remember those? Some of them had some pretty fancy outfits and a couple that she had were quite large.

I can't say that any of them have remained in pristine condition, but since I have an emotional attachment to them, I still have all of them either at home or in storage.

I'm hoping to build the collection someday, further. Beyond those, though, I've never had any interest in collecting dolls. These ones appeal to me because of the historical aspect (I loved the books as a little girl). Other dolls though never appealed. Come to that, I always thought Cabbage Patch dolls and Barbies were really funny looking! O:-) Merry

Also, if you look on ebay, there are always unopened Cabbage Patch Kids for sale--I'm sure millions were sold in hopes of selling at a higher price, not for kids to play with! Angela

I still have all of those, but I don't collect them anymore. I have one large one and a bunch of the regular/small ones. I know a lot of people think Cabbage Patch Kids are ugly lol. I think they got a little unappealing in the mid-late 80s when they started putting out the ones with their tongues hanging out, and the faces began to look very strange. But I still think the early ones are adorable. There are certain headmolds (the face types) that I prefer over others. I have two porcelain dolls. One I can't find but must be in storage, and the other is in my closet still in the box. Sure Ray, action figures count. I have a LOST action figure (the Charlie character) and I count that among my doll collection. Angela
