Found out recently that Cinco de Mayo is NOT Mexico's independence from Spain, which is what I've always thought. According to Wikipedia, "the
holiday commemorates an initial victory of Mexican forces led by General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín over French forces in the Battle of Puebla on May 5,
1862." I never knew the French had colonial aspirations in that part of North America!

I wished my neighbor a Happy Cinco De Mayo day yesterday and asked her what she was going to be doing and she said it was just another day for her with working I guess. She doesn't understand English very well so I'm not sure she understood my question very well. But I have the sweetest neighbors right next door to me. Their little girl presented me with dandylions as flowers again yesterday. I have them in a cup in my kitchen. So sweet. Love always, Cheri

They were selling nachos at work today to benefit the United Way. That's probably as festive as I'll get. But then again, I'm not hispanic either.

Living in California, it's almost a necessity to celebrate! Actually, Chris and I had some great Mexican good down in Malibu. The kids don't care for
it, so we tend to have it when we go out by ourselves.

I'm Mexican on my Dad's side of the family (Polish on my Mom's side).....I think the independance day you speak of is in September, er, about
mid-month....
