Just wondering what the other avid readers are currently perusing. The last book I was read "Shattered Dreams", about a woman who escaped a
polygamist marriage. The author was actually a neighbor of ours before moving.

It's always really interesting to read books that feature people you knew! I must admit, I too am a fan of non-fiction -I am currently reading one book
about Laurel and Hardy called "Clown Princes of Comedy" and I've also got "I am Spock" by Leonard Nimoy on the go. Working in a
library, I feel I really should read more classics but sometimes I think that life's too short to read something just because it's a
"classic". Reading should be a pleasure, not a chore.

The last book I finished was "Duma Key", the new novel by Stephen King. It's about a man who, after suffering a horrible accident and loses a
limb, not to mention his marriage, discovers he has an inate ability for drawing and painting--and what happens after he moves to a secluded residence in the
Florida Keys to start his life over and finds that his work starts developing some unusual capabilities.
Currently I am reading "Invisible Chains" by Kristina Sauerwein. This is the first book to deal with the Shawn Hornbeck kidnapping. A lot of you know that this story has really touched me in a profound way, and it still does. I have mixed feelings about the book so far. Kristina does a really good job of summing up everything we know about what happened, and the lengths that Pam and Craig Akers went to to find their son. But at the same time Kristina goes to some length to try and explain a lot of what happened from a psychological standpoint, when her only professional resources are mental health experts who are familiar with the story but have not been involved with it, which I find to be a little presumptious.

I just finished reading "Songs of the Humpback Whale" by Jodi Picoult. She's one of my favorite authors, but this was definitely not one of my
favorite books. I found it very confusing.

I just finished "Shattered Dreams" too Nora! I found it amazing how nicely she speaks of her husband-I don't think I could be that forgiving. I'll have to find the book I'm currently reading, can't remember the title. PS1 WORDS OF WISDOM

I don't read fiction that often unless it is short stories. I just never can make enough time for anything novel so I would forget all the details if I
came back to the book days or weeks later, so my reading habits are non-fiction.
Let's see - My most recent read is Phishing Exposed. - a technical book about online fraud - phishing - meaning - Phishing is the term coined by hackers who imitate legitimate companies in e-mails to entice people to share passwords or credit-card numbers. (I took that defy from WordSpy). |

I'm working on Catch-22 by Joseph Heller, but took a break to start The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon. It's ...
different...... got a few similarities to one of my favourites; Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer.
Before this one, I finished up Yes I Can by Sammy Davis Jr. after a long struggle through it (for some reason I just couldn't get through one chapter and it wound up taking me almost a year to get through the whole thing). Mike read me the Cat in the Hat while he was here... and I read him Deep Thoughts by Jack Handy.... *giggle*

Catch 22...wow. I had to read that back in my "school daze" and it totally confused the heck out of me. It's a pretty complex read. Good luck on
that one, Petey.

Haha, thanks Shane! I started reading it one day as I've done a couple mock covers for it in class. One of these days I've got to read Fahrenheit 451
as well- another I've been doing covers for.

I'm currently trying to read "Mistaken Identity" - A true story of an accident which killed 5 students from Taylor University in Upland, Indiana.
The one surviving student was misidentified by the Grant County Coroner. It's been news around here for a long time and the book came out a few weeks
ago. They were featured on the "Today Show" and also a 2 hour episode "Dateline" last week. Unfortunatly I didn't get to see the
"Dateline" show, I bought the book in hopes of better understanding how these two remarkable families are dealing with everything that has happened
to them. I know how badly the story affected me, I just couldn't begin to imagine how the familes are getting through it.
I really thought it would be a good book, and it is so far, it's just a lot harder than I thought to actually read it. |

I just recently finished A New Earth- Awakening to Your Life's Purpose by Eckhart Tolle. Yes, it's one of those New Age type books and Oprah's book
club selection. I am now getting back into Duma Key by Stephen King, the same book Shane just finished. I'll let you know, Shane what I think if I EVER
finish the darn thing!

Tammy, I've seen the woman who wrote "Shattered Dreams" speak at a function since she lives locally-the next town over, in fact. Plural marriage
is an interesting subject to me because my sister-in-law lived in Colorado City, AZ., which is pretty much a polygamist community, for several years.
LuAnne, I cried so much seeing the interviews of the families who are the subject of "Mistaken Identity" that I'm not sure I could get through the book. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
