Time for a little update. I didn't go to the casting call, (Saturdays are way too busy for me as it is already), but this was cool to read about.
http://www.thenorthwestern.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080309/OSH0101/803090454/1987 Hundreds brave the cold for chance to be in Depp movie By Amanda M. Wimmer of The Northwestern Hundreds and hundreds of starry-eyed hopefuls showed up at Carl Traeger Middle School Saturday in hopes of getting a silent roll in "Public Enemies." People from all over Oshkosh and Wisconsin started lining up at the school as early as 6 a.m. Saturday morning dressed in traditional 1930s attire - big curled hair, pump heals and double breasted pin striped suits were in abundance. Fashion and fitting the part trumped the cold weather Saturday morning - temperatures in the single digits didn't stop anyone from dressing in clothes that revealed exactly what participants thought the production company was looking for. "It's a fun life experience," said Victoria Bolz, of Appleton. "This is something you tell to your children and your grandchildren." Bolz said she had a good time looking through old photos of her family to see what they wore during the era in which the movie, starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale, took place. "The skirts were a little hard to find," she said. The film will be directed and produced by University of Wisconsin graduate Michael Mann. Deep will play bank-robber John Dillinger, while Bale will play FBI Special Agent Melvin Purvis, who led the manhunt for Dillinger in the 1930s. This year's Best Actress Oscar winner Marion Cotillard has also signed on to play Billie Frechette in the film. Traffic Saturday morning was busy on 20th Avenue near the school where the casting call took place. The casting call didn't begin until 10 a.m. but the doors opened rescuing those eagerly waiting with photographs and resumes around 9:20 a.m. from the cold. Oshkosh police were onsite before the doors opened Saturday and remained on site throughout the day to direct traffic. Because the parking lots at Traeger were quickly filled, additional parking was available at the 20th Avenue YMCA. But before anyone could make their way to Saturday's casting call, it was crucial to have something to wear. Downtown's Atomic Katz reaped the benefits of the casting call all week, said Sandy Prunty, store co-owner. Prunty said she welcomed the spirit and camaraderie everyone shopping brought to the store. "Tuesday and Wednesday we actually had people waiting for us to open," she said. Kathy Tomasko traveled to Oshkosh from New Holstein Friday night and planned to stay in a hotel so she could get to the casting call early. "We're going to be movie stars," Tomasko said. She helped her brother, Ron Tomasko, of Oshkosh, pick out a pin striped suit to wear from Atomic Katz Friday night. "I don't think we've ever had something like this in Oshkosh before," Ron Tomasko said. "This is very exciting." Some at Saturday's casting call were optimistic that the possibility of being an extra in "Public Enemies" would pave the way for something even greater. "We are drama people and this never happens in Oshkosh," said Bethany Busch, a junior at Valley Christian High School. "We have to take the opportunity while we have it." Veronica Hilgeneerg, of Fond du Lac, said she's interested in acting, which is why she showed up for the casting call. "Any experience you can have is exciting," she said. Shane
