Ok, got this off the TV Land Message board, about the I Dream of Jeannie episode #67 which has Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart in it and Monkee albums everywhere. I did mention this here about a clip I had seen on Tvland and there was Davys 1st album on the shelf. According to this person who saw this episode there are several Monkee albums around in the episode. I guess I will have to watch I Dream of Jeannie, since they are playing it again on METV.

I really want to see this episode.
When I was quite young, I watched I Dream of Jeannie so much, I saw repeats of the same show, but that particular one just does not ring a bell. In the Monkees entry (recently, maybe learly August or late July) at LiveJournal there is some info about this particular episode. This is a fun link: monkees pic at live journal Sotet

Thanks for the heads-up, JM, hubby will be deeee-lighted!
Both of us are also enormous fans of "Jeannie"...probably for slightly different reasons, of course. |

I have this episode on DVD (it's on the season 3 box set). I have all of the 'I Dream of Jeannie' box sets that are out so far: seasons 1, 2 & 3. In the scene where Jeannie finds Bobby in the record store, you can see Bobby holding the Monkee's first album in his hand. I noticed David's album on the shelf right away.

I heard a Boyce & Hart song on the radio Saturday sung by Boyce & Hart (can't remember the title). The presenter said that they (B&H) sang on the early Monkees hits but that this was unconfirmed.
I know they did some demos of early Monkee hits but I wasn't aware that these had been released. I do know that B&H recorded their own version of Stepping Stone in 1966. The presenter was implying that, no only did the Monkees not play on their records, but on some of them, they didn't even sing. xxx Viv xxx |

Actually, that is partly true. Boyce & Hart sang back-up and harmonys on the first 2 albums. And sang the songs on the pilot. I think it had something to do with when they first went into the recording studio, they goofed around, that made Donnie mad, so he had them record songs separatley and with back -up singers to round out their vocals. The golden sound.

Interestingly enough, The Monkees TV series preceded I Dream Of Jeannie on NBC during the 1966-67 season, and it was I Dream Of Jeannie which inherited The Monkees' old timeslot on NBC (7:30 p.m. EDT Monday) upon the latter's cancellation in September 1968.
In the scene with The Jumper (June Fairchild) in The Monkees movie HEAD, watch out for a female extra wearing a Jeannie outfit.

Yup, and then during the 67-68 season, Laugh-In followed. Back to back favorites for me, lol. Well, I think Laugh-In first came on in January...so Mon nights I was sure to get any homework done right after school, so I could watch tv from 6:30-8 CST.

Wasn't Laugh-In always in a later time slot? Like 9 or 10 PM EST?

Thanks for posting that episode, Marnweb. I've seen that episode many many times over the years, but it's great to see a complete copy of it on the
Web. Lots of folks have never seen it.
I remember seeing it when it first aired in Oct. 1967. I just loved seeing all the Monkee albums and references all over the episode back then. And check out Phil Spector. Now we need to find the full Boyce and Hart episodes of Bewitched and Flying Nun on the web. They haven't released those on DVD yet, but Season 6 of Bewitched will be out soon and has that episode. Season 3 of Flying Nun isn't out yet. Both of those appearances are from 1969. |

Nice detail, SGS7. Luckily small clips of the Bewitched clip are on YT

The Bewitched episode with Boyce & Hart is in season 6, 'Serena Stops The Show'. Bewitched - The Complete Sixth Season is being released on DVD on
May 6th. Not sure when the final season of The Flying Nun will be released (that season features Boyce & Hart).

Another Monkees-I Dream of Jeannie connection involves the sound stage both shows used at Screen Gems in Hollywood. I recall reading in one of the Tiger Beat
Magazines (Tiger Beat, Fave, or Monkee Spectacular--one of those) back in the '60's that the first season of "I Dream of Jeannie" in 1965 was
filmed in Screen Gems Soundstage 7. The next year when "The Monkees" started shooting their show at Screen Gems in 1966, their show took over
filming in Soundstage 7, and "I Dream of Jeannie" got booted to another soundstage on the lot.
Another connection between the shows happened when Sammy Davis, Jr. filmed his episode of "I Dream of Jeannie" the same week the Monkees were filming Monkees A La Mode (the one with Chic Magazine). There are several photos of Sammy and The Monkees out there, but what I remember reading in one of the fan mags back then is that Sammy had personally requested to meet The Monkees on the Screen Gems lot. And of course, anyone who has ever seen the 1966-1967 2nd season episode of "I Dream of Jeannie" with Sammy Davis Jr will know of yet another connection between the shows. At the part where Sammy is rehearsing at the hotel and he sings the song "The Girl from Ipanema", at the end of the song, he pauses a few seconds and then says "Well, it ain't the Monkees, but it'll have to do." What a great line.
