With the influx of new members here lately, I thought it might be fun to inquire of them, as well as those of us who have been here a while, where you first heard about Monkeeland from. I'm just kind of curious. As for myself, I used to hang around quite a bit in the late 90's and early 00's at the alt.music.monkees Usenet newsgroup, and I knew Cin and Lucy a little bit, as well as the beginnings of ML, from there. I didn't actually come on board here until much later, though. In fact, I didn't really actually make an attempt to post until Micky, David and Peter had their Waterfest concerts scheduled here for Oshkosh in the summer of '04, and wanted to start spreading the news. From there, the rest as Micky would say is a hysterectomy. Shane Keep an eye out for Public Enemies!

It's been my "2nd home" ever since and I've gotten to know a lot of great people on here. In fact, I'll go as far as to say that this board is a real blessing for me.

We migrated our old board here to Yuku fairly recently, and she did a super job of transferring the look and feel of the old setup to our new home here. I found another discussion board (I think thru monkees.net) and posted there for a bit. As I recall, someone there asked about other discussion boards and Monkeeland was mentioned, so I decided to check it out. I actually lurked for about 3 months before I finally joined. I love this place and the people here - and am especially pleased that while I've made lots of new friends over the years, some of the regulars from 6 years ago are still around (although some less frequently than others) and that I count Lucy as one of my closest friends. I know that I heard about it on the Micky Dolenz In The Morning Show back in 2005, but I may have known about it before that. I never used to use the internet all that much, and although I'd been aware that there were Monkees websites on the internet for several years, I felt too overwhelmed by the volume and number of them to even begin to check any of them out more than once or twice. I guess I became aware of them during that period in my life when, although I still loved The Monkees, I was too busy with other things to make the time to keep up with them. I really got into Micky's radio show, though and started keeping up with a website that was chronicling it at the time. After WCBSFM got "hi-Jacked" and the show ended, I started looking for other Monkee-related outlets on the web. I found some smaller Monkees message boards and started posting there, and I looked into Monkeeland then too but found it too huge and overwhelming at first. (Seems hard to believe now!) It wasn't until I'd lurked here for a few months and started to feel like I felt comfortable with the set-up of the board and the people on it that I decided to join. --And I'm very glad I did! Hugs to all the wonderful Monkeelanders I've met here, and Kudos and great appreciation to Lucy for setting it up and for everyone who has contributed toward giving Monkeeland such a special feeling of community!
