The show was held at the Conejo Valley Days Festival in Thousand Oaks, CA. Nora and her husband flew down from NoCal, and Molly and her husband drove up from San Gabriel (that IS where you live, right, Molly?). Our plan was for me and my wife to meet up at the hotel where Nora and Chris were staying, but the L.A. traffic through the west side was more clogged than usual. So I got out my trusty cell phone and told the ladies we would meet them at the fairgrounds instead.
After a long drive and a bite of "fair fare" as Molly aptly put it, we finally met over at the main stage. Nora and Molly had our front row seats all staked out well ahead of time, so it gave us all a chance to meet and chat face-to-face for the first time. Happy am I to say the ladies and their spouses are every bit as fun and friendly and warm-hearted as they are here.
We patiently waited and listened to the opening band, who weren't half bad. Reminscent of the Black Crowes and Train in their style of rock. And were they LOUD. They played a 45 minute set, and after they were done we took to our seats.
Now, understand that the last time I had seen any of the guys in person was nearly 20 years ago, so all I had to go on as far as how Micky would look was Internet pictures. A rather large man in a zoot suit came on stage and started to tune the keyboard - I assumed this was The Mick! A lady approached the stage holding a Monkees record and chatted with him and then went back to her seat. So I turned to Nora and Molly and said, 'did you see that lady trying to ask Micky for an autograph before the show even started?' They looked at me funny and politely said, 'Um, Tom - that wasn't Micky.' D'oh!!!! Good thing, too, because he was quite "girthy".
Then, shortly after 8pm, the band played an intro and Micky was announced. He looked very sharp in a black coat and pants, sparkly T-shirt, short-brimmed hat. And he was quite trim!
Here's the other songs the band did (in no particular order):
A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You
Last Train To Clarksville
She
Words
Valleri
Different Drum (Coco)
Runaway (Coco)
Mary Mary (Micky on drums)
I'm Not Your Stepping Stone (Micky on drums)
Daydream Believer
Purple Haze
Oh Darling
Johnny B. Goode
D.W. Washburn
Pleasant Valley Sunday
I'm A Believer
Gimme Some Lovin'
When the show ended, Micky graciously made time for autographs and photos. Chris got a great one of Micky with Nora, Molly, me, and my wife. I'm sure it'll be posted here once Nora and Chris get home and unpack.
The show was great, solid entertainment. Micky was in great voice, telling funny stories about Jimi Hendrix opening for the Monkees and his flying to London to meet the Beatles. The band was excellent, and Coco is of course a great singer in her own right. Lots of kids there, which does my heart good because I know the magic and fun of the group and the guys will continue to last a long time from now.
Nora and Molly, please feel free to add anything I might have forgotten!

) and that he had in the past referred to Good Morning!
I'd thought that Nora had mentioned that you might be coming along for this Fanfolk extravaganza too, but I wasn't
sure until the feedback started coming in. I'm so glad you all had such a good time, and thanks so much for writing and posting this review! Great
picture of your little group with Micky (I guess Six took the picture since he's not in it?), and yes, that's Loafy in the background in the red &
black hat. I had noticed the red and black theme also and wondered if it was just a coincidence or if you and your wife had planned it on purpose because you
knew that Micky and his band often dressed that way.
