Ah! A kindred spirit! Have you read Duma Key yet? I thought it was awesome!

I just started it. It does seems to be a good one. I remember you asking me awhile ago if I read the Dark Tower series. I finally read the last one and I was
so sad! If anyone had told me the end of that one before I finished it I would have been mad!

True, but it also kind of stays true to the theory of "ka" being a wheel, and eventually it comes around to the place where you started. The answer
was there all the time, but it was so obvious it was easy to overlook. I thought the ending was pretty clever, actually. Not a "happily ever after",
but the only ending that really makes sense when you really think about it.
It's also a principle that has a place in Duma Key, as well.

That is true. It did make sense, I just didn't like it!

I hope you stick with it. Once the major action starts to happen, I found it hard to walk away from.

I too have been a rabid Stephen King fan for years...I can't tell you how many times I read and re-read "Carrie" when I was in Jr. High....
I devoured every book after that...it did take me a while to get through "Salem's Lot" and "The Stand" but the latter was well worth it when it was re-released with the stuff that was cut out from the first version....in fact, even though it was a much longer book the 2nd time around, I actually finished it much sooner than I did initially! And I have never looked at refrigerator magnets in the same way after reading "Bag of Bones"... |

I loved The Stand!! For me it was one of those books that just kind of pulls you in and blocks out the whole world. PS1 WORDS OF WISDOM
Everyone seems normal until you get to know them You can't have everything. Where would you put it? I don't get even, I get odder. Stupidity got us into this mess - why can't it get us out? If it ain't broke, fix it till it is. My Reality Check bounced Experience is a wonderful thing. It enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again. Nothing is fool-proof to a sufficiently talented fool |

And if you're a fan of the Tower books, you'll know what wound up happening to our ol' friend Randy Flagg. (The Stand is not the only place
you'll find him in King's world!)
There are a bunch of other characters whose destinies lie within the reach of the Dark Tower...Father Callahan from Salem's Lot, Ted Brautigan from Hearts In Atlantis, Patrick Danville from Insomnia among others. The neat thing about King's work is that so much of it relates back to the Tower in some way. And lest we forget his teleplays as well....Storm Of The Century, Rose Red and more recently Kingdom Hospital were all specifically written for television. I'm such a big fan of the basic premise behind Kingdom Hospital that I have grown equally as fond of the original Lars Von Trier Danish TV series, (i.e. The Kingdom--see my avatar!), that King based his series on.

I was wondering about that avatar, Shane. Kingdom Hospital was really bizarre. I didn't watch all of the episodes. The Stand is my very favorite book of
his and I liked the movie too. The characters in the book felt so real to me.

I remember the first time I read The Stand. I thought at first "I'll never get through a book this thick". But as soon as I started,I got into it
and stuck with it. Great book.

I just saw that some of you were discussing Stephen King. My husband and I are Stephen King fans, too (The Stand is our favorite, followed closely by The
Green Mile, and probably It). We were in Bangor, Maine last summer, and we drove by his house. Here's a picture:
His front gate looks like a spider web, and there are bats on the posts on either side. And they were already there when he bought the house, LOL. How apropos. Oh, and there was an old car sitting at a gas station down the street, and it looked like it had been there for years. I swear it looked exactly like the car in Christine, and my husband and I got a laugh out of thinking it may have been King's inspiration. |

Too funny! Yes, I am a huge King fan. Have been for years. In fact, I just finished re-watching The
Mist on DVD before I logged on this evening.

I think I have seen a picture of his house before. How lucky you were to find it! I am another huge fan. I am now finally finishing Duma Key(50 pages left!)
and it is really good! I also love the Stand and the Dark Tower series. I wonder if the car you saw was the inspiration for Christine. I know he mostly writes
about what he knows.
