The episode, "The Picture Frame" is on OnDemand right now, and of course, Micky wears his glasses in the courtroom scenes. I also saw him wear them
in "Monkee Mother", in the fight scene in "Head", and in pictures from the Headquarters recording sessions. I've read that they were
really his glasses.
So, my question is: did he wear contact lenses when he wasn't wearing glasses or did he only need glasses sometimes, like for reading? Or maybe he was walking around pretending to be able to see, LOL. Thanks!

I have heard they were really his, but can't remember the source. I also know there is a a picture of him and Ami as a child in his bio and he's
holding his glasses in them. As a matter of fact I think I might have seen more recent pictures with him having reading glasses on, maybe when he was
promoting "Gakky".

Micky always was very nearsighted. I just posted, in a separate thread, a reprint of a 1967 "16 Magazine" article where Micky talks about just
this subject at the very beginning of the piece.
Here's part of the article. Micky in the 1967 article said: I CONFESS---I'm near-sighted. Very near-sighted. That means I can't see things that are too far away from me---like, say, six inches from my nose! That's why I'm always squinting on the show (and you thought that was just one of my little jokes!). I've tried contacts, but they don't work on me. Maybe it's that I don't work on them. Anyway, I have three pair of glasses (that I know of---I'm always losing them, you see): one horn-rimmed very round pair, one rectangular pair, and one pair of prescription shades. I can't drive without 'em; I can't eat Kellogg's without 'em; in fact, I can't even walk without 'em. But I can sleep without 'em. Check out the other thread for the full article from 1967. |

He is quite nearsighted and needs his glasses to see the board at school, watch TV and movies, etc. I think he'd probably be better off just wearing them all the time, but he doesn't want to for some reason, and his eye doctor says it's okay for him to just use them the way he has been, so I don't press the issue. |

Ooh, that's a new one to me SGS! I'm gonna head to your other post and read the rest. The one I was searching for was written by someone for one of
the teenybopper mags, and it was things you didn't know about Micky or something like that. The article talked about how shy he is and something about if
he walks by you with out saying something, it's not that he's snubbing you-he just can't see you! I've searched but i don't remember where
I saw it.

If memory serves (and it doesn't always!), I seem to recall pictures of one of his daughters wearing glasses as well, at a fairly young age. Perhaps the
near-sightedness is a family trait? (Speaking as someone who's daughter and father also have glasses!)

You're right, Nora. In his autobiography, there's a picture of one of his daughters wearing glasses. If the caption lists them in the correct order,
it's Charlotte. She looks like she's maybe 7 or 8 in the picture.

Which still begs the question (for me at least), why would he wear glasses in certain scenes and not the whole show? It's not like he would have been any
less loveable with them-in fact, I think he looks adorable with glasses on! (Then again, I think he looks darn adorable in general

I loved the glasses he sometimes wore on the show....they were so.....hmmmm......Micky. He did look very cute in those. I remember on one of the occasions during the Pippin tour seeing him with two pairs. I'm assuming one was a spare. He only put them on when he signed his dinner check. I giggled into my napkin as they were perched on the end of his nose.......trust me Micky, I understand completely. Is there such
a thing????

I am nearsighted as well. I need my glasses for driving especially. However, when I'm at home, I don't wear my glasses usually and I can see the
computer monitor fine without them. I have found that going a while without the glasses on and then looking far away I can see better without the glasses on
somewhat. Shhhh, I have even driven without them when they are needed for driving. Well, when you can't find them at the time, you kinda need an
alternative since you lost your previous pairs of glasses as well.
I've lost two pairs of my glasses and they were my current prescription so I am wearing my older ones that are a different prescription. I'm fine seeing with them. I just like to rest my eyes from wearing the glasses when I'm at home, as I can still see perfectly fine at home since everything is close-up. |

I have been wearing glasses since the age of 2 when my parents discovered I had a lazy eye. Had to wear an eye patch for awhile. I was always farsighted but
now that I'm an old fogie I am nearsighted as well.

If they had played all the episodes, I wouldn't have minded so much. And I really don't want to put out $135 right now to buy both seasons on Amazon. I
was hoping to do that for Christmas (because several family members usually give me Amazon gift certificates).
OnDemand did the same thing last year--my husband really enjoyed Soap, and he looked forward to a new episode every week. Then suddenly, no more Soap!
