I got season two brand new for $40, including shipping. Not bad. I received it in the mail the other day so I've only watched a few episodes so far. I
think I like Season One more, even though a few of my favorite episodes are on season two. Oh, and I saw LOTS of black lines in Fairy Tale (which someone
mentioned) and Monkees Watch Their Feet. It's very noticeable on a widescreen tv. But other than that, I'm glad I got this on sale. Now I have to
watch Hillybilly Honeymoon and see if I can figure out what that poster meant about Mike in the naughty Monkees moments thread.

daydreambeliever84 wrote:You know, I tend to hear that fairly often. Many people's favorite episodes come from the 2nd season, ("The Christmas Episode", "The Devil And Peter Tork", "Fairy Tale" for instance), but most like the overall feel of the 1st season more. What do you all think? Is it maybe a difference in the writing, or in the guys' performances--or both??? Shane

In all fairness,Shane, that question seems related to the "Jump The Shark" thread where people were stating how they liked season one more than season
two. One of the main reasons I prefer season one more is because season one had a "Hard Days Night" feel to it,which is what The Monkees were
patterned after in the first place.

I can honestly say I cannot recall ever seeing an episode from season 2, as depressing as that is! I keep hoping at some point soon I'll get it though. I've heard so many good things about it.

I never DID figure out what they were talking about re: Mike in "Hillbilly Honeymoon".
Each season being different in a way, I've found different things to like about each season. First season has an innocent sweetness amongst the satire; season two tended to be more cynical and aware of the era in which it existed. Congrats on getting season two at such a great price! |

Shane, I think I like season one more in general for the reason Molly Divoon wrote: it has a more innocent sweetness about it.
Thanks for the congrats on getting it cheap. lol, I wish I'd known about this sale earlier and purchased season one there---it would have been only $50!! Oh well, I'm lucky to have caught that one. Merry, I got it at deepdiscount.com. I also got The Facts of Life season 3 for $19. I have a few more things I want to order. They are sold out of Welcome Back Kotter--too bad!! I want that one too. Yeah, the Hillbilly Honeymoon thing has been bugging me. I am going to watch it tonight. I'll report back after it's over. Angela

Merry, I don't know if you read these messages yet, but I ordered my set about 3 weeks ago or longer. It took 10 days to arrive. I used a coupon code to
get an additional percentage off. I can't remember what code it was, but some worked and some didn't and I remember typing a few in until I got one
that worked. The guy I got them from--some worked for him that didn't work for me, so it's just a matter of finding the right one I guess. Their
current price is still a sale, it's usually about $63 on that site. But if you need a coupon code, I can give you a few to try.

Interestingly, when the show ended in March 1968,the re-runs of season 2 that ran from April to August 1968 did not contain redubbed music like the season one
episodes did. I think if they did bother to redub those season 2 episodes with music from "The Birds,The Bees & The Monkees" that it may of
helped that album.

Right after I read this, my boyfriend told me not to buy it and not to let anyone in my family buy season 2 for me, because someone may or may not be buying
it for me for my birthday (which is in one month). He won't say exactly who (but it better not be him!). I'm very intrigued and curious, but I guess I
gotta behave till then and just see if I do get it.

I like the record cases that the DVDs come in,but it would of been much more convenient if they were issued like other DVDs.

I like the little covers. They are super cute. But it would have been nice to have them in a case that the dvds could be snapped into rather than sliding
them out. I tried putting one of the disces from season one in a new slim jewel case, but when I took it out, it was all dusty and worse than in the sleeve,
so I just keep them in the sleeves.
Btw, my new favorite romp is "Love is Only Sleeping" from "I Was a 99 lb. Weakling". I've got a crush on Mike again (okay all of them, as I seem to like each one at different times, and Davy is still #1, but Mike is, well, my obsession at the moment). Angela

I took all of my season 1 and season 2 Monkees DVDs out of those slip covers and put them in jewel cases. The slip covers are nice, but they can scuff the DVDs.

I keep all of mine in a little soft plastic case that has room inside to hold a couple of dozen DVDs or CDs in little plastic sleeves. That way I have them
all together -- plus some homemade Monkees DVD-Rs that I have as well. Someone here had mentioned doing something like that, and it seemed like a good idea,
because the original packaging was sort of inconvenient for regular use. I wish I'd thought of it and made that transfer before I did permanent damage to
those cute little record-player packages they came in though! I have kept those boxes, but they're pretty much falling apart by now.

I guess Rhino didn't consider how fragile the packaging would be.

Yeah, my box sets are scotch taped, as the boxes broke when they were moved from NS to Ont. Boo.
I had to buy season 2 a week after I had bought season 1. I tend to watch S1 more than S2, but I do enjoy several episodes from S2. Heck, I enjoy all the episodes, S! just happens to have more than S2. |

I'm still eagerly awaiting details on whether I'm actually getting season 2. It's almost a month till my birthday (the 23rd of July) and my
boyfriend just LOVES the fact that I get really impatient and eager, and is taunting me almost daily. Grr.

One of my discs got scuffed in the jewel case I mentioned earlier. I don't think the "slim" kind are good. Regular jewel cases are best.
I've watched almost all of S2. I skipped about 5 episodes for now. I haven't watched the special yet either. I must have played "Love is Only Sleeping" from 99 1/2 Pound Weakling about a dozen times. I love that one. Angela
