Nora, I think I have even heard that Crystal light is bad for you in some sense. Everything is bad for you one way or another, including water whether it be
bottled or tap. Our tap water has radon or radium in it.

I have to say that anyone wanting to exercise should look at this website I am now a member of. www.dance.net
The Ballet section is beautiful. All these devoted dancers encouraging others to dance is just beautiful. I find it very inspiring. I had to work retail today and I talk to beautiful lady that was buying flower for her granddaughter that was in dance recital. I 'oooheed and ahhhheeed' and told her I was a dancer before for 13 years. She told me this one studio is open again and I called them when I got off retail job and left message. I want to take ballet again so badly, even though my knees are bad. I still have my pointe shoes that I bought for Christmas one year as a present to myself. I get in them occasionally, however, standing on my toes hurts excruciatingly now that I'm 100 pounds heavier than I was when I took pointe in the past. I want to start dancing again because it is great exercise, although those mirrors are torture. I have started Wednesday to do some workout dvd's, I have two of them one is 15 minute workout for dummies that has some weight training with hand weights
for the bi-ceps and the tri-ceps and hips,buns and others but i say *bleep* yours lady at her idea of doing leg work. I can't balance on my legs and
ankles. The other one is Jan Voights great weighted work out which I can not really do since my gross motor skills for balancing are bad. Anyone have any ideas
for toning the hips?

Karen, do you have access to a pool? There are some good leg/hip toning exercises you can do with a noodle in the pool. Also, the water helps you with
balance and you can hold on to the side of the pool for support. Otherwise, good old-fashioned leg lifts!

Ray is right about watching what you eat.
That, plus exercise beats any fad diet out there. Many fad diest hel you lose weight....from your wallet in most cases I started working out again simply because I want to get off my Blood pressure meds. I was fine till they changed my meds but this one caused me to pack on some weight...fast. Kinda defeated the purpose of BP meds in my opinion. Oh I am back at it and can jog a little again but now I've got some problems now with my lower back and right hip so I am also in constant pain and of course the Army aint the greatest for finding the cause of it. They rather feed you more drugs and send you home. Here in Korea, what you eat, watches you! At least till they get it into the pot! LOL "It is not the critic who counts: not the man who points out

I walk every other day and that's enough exercise. About 3 miles. Gets the heartrate up,burns calories etc.
That's all we really need,besides toning if that is wanted. Personal trainers are just for people that don't know how to do things themselves and must be lead by the hand.

I finally lost about 4 pounds since I started this thread. It took forever! I need to lose about 25 more but I guess I have to be patient. I was always able to
do it with diet alone but no more since good old menopause came along! Now I am going to a gym 3 days a week and using the treadmills, bikes and weight
machines. I tried the elliptical and I can't do it!! I have tried about 3 times and I can't get past 3 or 4 minutes. I feel like my heart is going to
explode! So I decided to keep my heart and do other things!
On the days I don't go to the gym I am doing exercises on TV and using our treadmill at home. When we joined the gym (my friend JoAnn ans I) they gave you one free session with a personal trainer. Mine said that exercise is 20 percent of weight loss and diet is 80 percent. I hope I can continue to do this and not blow it!! |

I know what you mean about the elliptical trainer, Mare. When I first started using it, I could only do it for about 10 minutes. Now I'm up to 40-45 but
it took me a looonnggg time to get there! Congrats on using the 4 lbs!

I am toning up a bit myself and working out at least 20 minutes a night with my dvd's. Nora I don't have a pool nearby to try that so I am riding my
bike to work everyday. I think that's supposed to help with toning up the hips.

Karen, riding a bike is great for the hips. Also, I find walking at a brisk pace, either outside or on the treadmill, is another good one for the hips.
Pilates is another one.

It's really exciting and motivating when you finally start to really lose. I spent a month working out and tried to cut down on my eating but didn't
lost a thing. All of a sudden I have lost 6 lbs.!
