In some ways it's been a great week for my extended family with the wedding, and in others it's been very stressful. Another cousin (the sister of the groom) is having some serious neck surgery done in a couple weeks. She has suffered from Juvenille Rheuemetoid Arthritis for many years and has had several hip/knee replacements, but this is the most serious surgery she has faced yet. Essentially, there is a chance she'll be paralyzed after the surgery but a greater chance if she doesn't. Last year her longtime boyfriend had surgery and treatment for melanoma and he's still feeling some latent effects of the treatment. To top it off, he's a Teacher Assistant at UC Berkeley while working on his PhD and is told he will no longer have a position after next semenster.

If all this wasn't stressful enough, we found out last week that my husband's brother-in-law is not only an alcoholic but has been having an affair for 10 years. They live out of state and I don't know them real well, but this was a real blow. Also, they are Mormon which makes things even more complicated for them due to the Mormon culture, and also have 4 kids, the youngest of which is 11. All this is putting some stress on me as well, just because I'm the one everyone calls to talk to. It's been a very long week in some respects. Anyway, any extra prayers for Katharine (cousin) and Karen (sis-in-law) would certainly be appreciated!
