Chris I too, think Propinquity may relate to Phyllis. It would seem so. I am guessing that was one of the tunes he had in storage till he left the Monkees and it's no secret that he had the affair and we sorta know the rest of the story.

I think that this song as well as, 9 X Blue, Conversations and the songs off the Monkee album Instant Replay were all written about the same time frame as they seem to deal with relationships and reconciliation.

When I first heard Nevada Fighter, I thought it was about a cowboy like figure like Pecos Bill riding cyclones & such

Nevada Fighter I believe is about the plight of the Native Americans. Waiting on the promises of the Government as they were set up on reservations and they got old waiting. In fact, I also think that was mentioned in the liner notes.

Nevada Fighter
written by Michael Nesmith

Facing left, facing right,
Saves the rest, Nevada fights, (fighting for survival my guess)
Left on the desert out in the cold, (out on the Rez)
He thought Sam would remember, (Uncle Sam)
But he was too old
And the by-gone, half-grown, high-flown cyclone rides.

Saving day, saving night,
Spends the rest, Nevada fights,
Left on the highway outside of town,
He thought someone would answer (Still waiting for Uncle Sam to come with help)
But no one was around,
And the by-gone, half-grown, high-flown cyclone rides.

Lonely start, lonely time,
Lonely heart, Nevada dies,
Lands of the peoples drying in the sun,
Waiting for the promised help
That never seemed to come, (Broken promises, broken treaties)
And the by-gone, half-grown, high-flown cyclone rides

Rainmaker is a cool song. Written by Harry Nillsson and Bill Martin. I tend to agree with you, that Nez being a Classic Movie enthusiast probably chose this one not only for the film but the pioneer days you had the rainmakers, and traveling Medicine shows ant others that became part of American history.

Also, in the liner notes or on the back cover (don't remember)Nevada Fighter is the first (and I think only) album where Michael identifies himself as "Papa Nes" which eventually evolved into Nez! ;)
