I don't have the single CD's or albums for Magnetic South and Loose Salute, so I don't know about liner notes and all. As for the songs on Magnetic South, (and I wonder why he called it that, come to think of it):
Calico Girlfriend
I think this was an odd opener to an album which was almost exclusively country, and I've never understood the meaning of the lyrics. If anybody does I'd like to know.
Nine X Blue
I suspect this may have something to do with Phyllis.
Little Red Rider
I don't get this one either unless maybe it was a little song about Jessica? "Little Miss Red is Little Miss Blue, and she looks alot like you around the eyes".
Crippled Lion
He's obviously going through some pain here "nothing stops when everything is done". The world goes on around him even though it seems his world has come to an end? And "though my path is planned it's not rehearsed"? He's made mistakes but he never intended to?
Joanne
I read that he said this one was about Mimi, Jack Nicholson's girlfriend, the girl in "Head", I think. Has anybody ever heard another song with the word "pond" in it?
Mama Nantucket
I love this song, it's joyful, and I still can't believe I like yodeling. I don't have a clue what it's about though.
Keys to the Car
A real jab at the PTB. "You can drive son, but don't drive too far". I can't remember all the words right now. I'll have to talk more about it later, because it's full of stuff about the Monkees and Kirschner.
Hollywood
Again, about the whole Monkees experience. "The things I tried to be made a wreck out of me, now a different road I must find." "Now to go back to that fork in the road, takes all the strength of my soul and more." Hollywood has been a "fair weather friend". "Now I will go to someplace that I know, where things don't start just to end."

Is this man brilliant, or what?

One Rose
A beautiful old song, more yodeling. I imagine there were lots of old CW songs he heard as a kid in Texas that he was just itching to try.
Beyond The Blue Horizon
On almost every album, he has one song where he experiments with different sounds, one song that is totally weird. Aside from all the sound effects though, this is a really powerful version of the song. One of my favorites.

Chris
"We just want to be revered by a small minority."Davy, "Your Friendly Neighborhood Kidnappers"
