I always hear Magnetic South as an example of the Real Nez--the "Monkees songs" on there that he remade on his own seem to be stripping away the influences of the other three and leaving just pure Nez, which of course, is wonderful stuff. I get a visula of him shaking off the weight, or unzipping his "Mike suit" and stepping out, fully formed, as Papa Nez. Insert lots of rebirth imagery here.

I remember reading somewhere that he was saving some of those songs for his solo recordings, that he'd written them while still in the Monkees, but didn't want to hand them over. I don't have good liner notes for the first two albums, either, since I have the import Mag South/Loose Salute cd. (Or rather LilBeets has it and it's somewhere in her room.) :eek
