I have 'Complete' as well, and I have a question: Why oh why did he omit First National Rag? I only have it because I checked a British compelation called Listen To The Band out from the library. It would have been good between the two discs of the album. I really like FNR.
The cool thing about Joanne is that when I first became a Nez solo fan (FNB Complete being the first CD I bought after assembling all the Monkees CDs), my dad stopped in his tracks when he heard me play it. My sister is named Joanne, and the song was a hit around the time she was adopted by my dad and his first wife. He used to sing it to her as a baby, so that always has a sisterly attraction for me.
Beyond the Blue Horizon is one of the Nez songs that can always make me grin and raise my spirits, no matter how low they are.
I have to ask, during Nine Times Blue, does anyone else notice the way that Mike whispers over the second verse? *sigh*
Ummm.... Texas Morning is always very good, Tengo Amore and Dedicated Friend are favorites, but the very favorite song of mine out of them all is Thanx For The Ride. I don't know why, but it inspires me a bit. I have several drawings of the same image (and one clay tile that didn't turn out as nicely as I wanted, but still looks neat enough that my mom displays it in the living room... OH! And we did glass etching one day of the last days of my senior year in high school, and I did the same picture) that sticks in my mind from the first couple of lines. "Thunder rumbling, twice the size / Echos distant to my goodbyes..." I'll have to scan one of the drawings I did, I guess.
I can't think straight. I might have more to say later.
In matters of grave importance, style, not sincerity, is the vital thing. --Oscar Wilde, The Importance of Being Earnest
