True but because of the outcome of that war, (The 2 A-Bomb drops) and with the assistance of the USA, Japan, once a nation of brutal feudal warlords has re-emerged and grown as a prosperous and peaceful economic superpower.
War, as much of a horrendous evil as it is, it is at times a necesary evil which often brings good.
When we experience war in the present, we do not see what the ultimate end will be.
Case in point - Japan, Europe, and Korea and though some may disagree, I will say Vietnam.
Vietnam was not our fight to begin with. France screwed up with their part on the division of Asia after WW2 and then they left and we ended up trying to fix the problem in Vietnam but our biggest problem with the Vietnam War was the politicians in Washington.
It is a slow process of healing but humans are quite resilient and we eventually pick up the pieces & move on.
I was over there in Japan on business 3 weeks ago and I am still amazed (as I was when I was stationed ther 20 years ago) at how far they have come with westernized modernization yet they maintain a very tight reign on their culture.
Japan is after all, a success story of Pearl Harbor and US foriegn policy. We did not hold a grudge because of Pearl Harbor. Once the fighting ended, who else but America was there to help them rebuild?
Ok that was my dissertation for the evening now I have a Trivia question.
Not counting the attack on Pearl Harbor, did Japan fight US troops on American soil and if so, where?
Put yer thinking caps on Kiddies!
