I definitely want to get to the theater to see the new Christmas Carol. I won't have the issue with the movie ticket prices, since my stepdad won those two
free passes for a year as a raffle prize at Oshkosh's Public Enemies premire event back in June. It's just a matter of arranging a time when my stepdad
can get to the theater with me. The hangup about the free passes is that they're in his name, and he has to present an ID when he uses them so they can
tell it's him. He hasn't been using those passes nearly as much as I would like, and since I paid the $75 a pop for the tickets to the PE event, I need
to get on his case to use them A LOT more.
Being a bonafide Scrooge nut, this will definitely be a version I'll need to check out. The only thing, after seeing some of the trailers and previews, that concerns me is that there seems to be quite a lot of "extra stuff" that isn't in the original story. Don't get me wrong, I'm not opposed to dramatic license, but those versions of the story that stay truest to Dickens' original book tend to be my favorites. But with this movie being geared towards kids, I'm sure that the Jim Carey schtick that only he can do is something you just can't get away from. Shane

Make sure you go see the movie, Shane. I saw it yesterday and it was very enjoyable. Amazingly, there was no Jim Carrey schtick whatsoever - he played it
straight and the film was better for it. If anything, some of the CGI animation overshadowed the story at points, but I guess it's understandable when you
want to appeal to the kids.
I took my little 85 year-old mom with me, figuring it was a safe bet. She knows the story, and since it was produced by Disney there wouldn't be any gratuitous swearing/sex/violence. When it ended she told me, "I really liked it, but I wouldn't recommend it for kids." Admittedly there were dark parts with some ghoulish figures, so I think she was referring to that. Bob Zemeckis, the man behind "The Polar Express", created this version. Now that I've seen both, I have to say I prefer "A Christmas Carol" - the animation flowed more naturally and the figures were rendered more realistically. Plus I'm as big a Scrooge-ophile as Shane. There's one part that was a neat little homage to the musical "Scrooge" with Albert Finney, so you know I loved that. But my favorite part would have to be the sequence where the Ghost of Christmas Present bids Scrooge farewell. The staging of the scene and the interpretation of the characters was fantastic, and it seamlessly transitioned into the following scene with the Ghost of Christmas To Come.

You've really got me interested now, Tom. I'll be checking this out the first opportunity I get! Thanks for the review.
The very fact that this story is kind of ghoulish and other-worldly is one of the big reasons why I like it. Admittedly I'm a big Stephen King fan, (anyone buying Under The Dome this week? Anyone? Anyone?), and really, if King had been writing at that time, this is really a story that he could have penned. A character driven piece that has some supernatural elements, and a good overcomes evil ending. Ghosts don't seem to fit in with Christmas ordinarily, but somehow here it does. Love it, love it, love it. I'll be visiting with my Mom and Stepdad later today. I'll have to prod them into digging out those passes.... Shane

In spite of it being a bit hectic, we all actually had a very nice time. We know the couple through Heather's school and their 8 yr. old twins are in her
class. They have one boy and one girl and all the kids played nicely (and loudly!) together.
Something pretty funny happened at church today. Our pastor got a bit long-winded, so the nice little old lady in front of us must have started reading all the announcements in the bulletin. She discreetly slipped it back to us with an arrow pointing towards the misprint of the word "shut-ins". The u had been replaced with an i. Boy, was it hard not to burst out laughing!

That is too funny NoraLou. The friend from high school who said she'd send me the transcriptions has sent me two so far (the business hasn't gotten the
payment yet, but that's because we made the invoice to have the due date at about a month from when each transcription was done). She said that it is a
twelve week class and last week's transcription was week 5 so with yesterday's transcription finished, there are definitely six more transcriptions
coming my to the business.
 When I finished the first transcript last week and sent her the invoice, we were just going to charge $3 per every 1,000 words
which would have come out to $36. After looking at the invoice, she emailed me back and said the company they were using before charged $1 per audio minute and
offered to pay that amount. I told her I had to check with the two people I'm working on making partners for the business (my fiance and one of my best
friends from high school), but I didn't think either of them would mind making more money. However, to be competitively priced and to make it easily
divisible by three, my future partners and me decided to make it $0.90 per audio minute instead which came out to $65.70 (Not that far from twice the amount we
were going to charge). She also said she'd recommend the business to the other departments in her company and that both transcripts looked great.
My fiance and I are looking into jobs in Memphis and when we visit my friend in February, we're going to do some job hunting then as well. In the meantime, I've been trying to find some short-term, seasonal, or legitimate work at home work to survive until we go to Tennessee (my parents are supportive and are helping me with my bills until I get something). The transcription from my friend helps a little bit, but the amount is going to be split in three when it comes because I want the business to be an equal partnership and even if it wasn't going to be split, you can't really do much with about $60 a week (I'm just rounding down here since the transcriptions are going to vary a few minutes here and there). Oh well, every little bit helps at least.

Have you ever felt guilty over something that's not your fault?
I had an in-store complaint situation over the past few days from somebody who said that their credit card was actually charged on a return instead of credited. He faxed in a billing statement to me, but really wasn't able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he actually returned his purchase. I even called the store in question and spoke to once of the nicest store managers I've talked to in a long time. Try as she might, she could not find any record of any returns. I went to my supervisors and they told me that the customer is going to have to dispute the situation with his card holder. When I called the customer back he pretty much went nuclear on me. He said he was going over to the store and mall security was going to have to drag him away. And this was right when I was leaving for the day. I feel so bad for what the store manager may have had to encounter after I got off the phone with him. I've been feeling guilty all night long. And tomorrow's Friday the 13th....not good. Shane

at least , thats my experience. I have lovely costumers in my store as well, but a "big mouth "  costumer can mess -up your day!

One of the worst customers I had was a customer who didn't say much, heh. I used to be one of the sample ladies in the grocery stores around town while I
was in college. I used to say hello to anyone who passed my booth, if they replied I would ask them to try the product, if they didn't I let them pass by.
I said hello to one woman, and she just said "No!" and walked past. I was like .... what did I do?!
Looking back on it it's kind of funny, but I was being so cheerful to everyone that to be shot down really caught me off guard, haha.

It's sad how people act to perfect strangers. I try to be friendly to everyone, and if anyone greets me, whether I know them or I not, I respond. Sometimes
it can make your whole day just to be told "good morning!"
In other news, one of the girls at work apparently is now mad at me - thinking me to be two-faced. Truthfully, I'm LOLing at it. She started telling me repeatedly how someone had been going through my mail at work and showed it to her (apparently it said that I got a different position that I had bid on), even though I never got any such notice. It got to where people were asking me WHEN I was going to go to this position. I didn't think much of it, till I finally asked her WHO was going through the stuff, because I never got the mail. She refused to tell me, so I told her I was going to go to our boss to find out about the position, because I obviously was pretty ticked about it all. I went to HER to ask if I did get said position, and she asked, so I explained the situation, and she wanted me to name who was telling me this. So I told my boss, and made it clear to her that I don't want to cause any trouble, just want some answers. Apparently I'm now two faced. AND I didn't get the position besides. Blah. Sometimes I think work would be much more pleasant if it weren't for the people.

TGIF, everyone! It's been a busy week for me. I'm certainly glad I have the weekend off, although a good part of my Saturday will be spent helping and
doing errands with Dad. Thankfully that's the only thing I'm worrying about this weekend.
The request I put in at work to use up my remaining personal days at the end of December was approved today, so now after I work a half day on Monday, December 21st, I'll have off through January 1st. Hopefully that will spare me from the majority of the angry "you ruined my kid's Christmas" calls at work. Has anybody been hearing Christmas music on the radio yet? My Dad's favorite radio station switched to an all Christmas format the day after Halloween! I couldn't believe it! Christmas music is fine after Thanksgiving, but before then it's a bit overkill in my book. Sirius/XM radio will be launching 2 Christmas music channels on Monday with more to follow. The holidays certainly do creep up on a person. Did you know that when a bell rings another retailer gets their comission? Shane

One of the local shopping centers is having a Santa/carriage ride/winter wonderland event this weekend. Seems pre-mature to me. Like Shane, unless I'm
rehearsing Christmas music for choir or something, I don't like to listen to it before Thanksgiving.
