Hi, I'm new to the board. I am a cashier at IKEA. I started there in October 2005. I took care of my mom from late 1986 until her passing in October 2002. Since 2000, I have been helping my younger sister raise her oldest grandson.
The best part of working at IKEA are my co-workers. Most of them are a joy to be around. Most of my customers are all right, but there are those who come in with a chip on their shoulder and take it out on us coworkers. They are the downside of working at IKEA. (So, please, if you are in bad mood when you go shopping, don't take it out on those who are trying to help you...cashiers or any of the other coworkers there. Thank you!) I am one of the older people in my department. So many children working there! (I'm 48, so anyone who was born after I turned 18 in 1976, I think of as a child. LOL!) But, according to a lot of people, at work and among my family, I neither look nor act my age. (The first part, I thank my gene pool; as for the second, since I've never been this age before, I don't know how I should be acting.) Peace on Earth Cookie "Let's just say you're mentally prepared for a life different than the one you're in."

I own a bookkeeping/income tax preparation business, therefore, I'm self-employed and I love it.

This is tax season right now in the U.S., Heidi. Is Canada's tax day also April 15th?

Hi NoraLou! Actually, Canada's tax day is April 30. I already filed my taxes two weeks ago and got my refund yesterday.

I am a Customer Care and Billing representative for the gas company in Alberta, Canada.
I take a lot of calls from angry people who like to crank their furnaces way up during the cold winter months, and then call me to complain their bills are too high. Then I have to explain how they are billed, and ask how much hot water they consumed, how high was their thermostat, etc.. I used to work as a Customer service rep in a Health supply store, I was a Residential Support Worker in a group home with mentally challenged clients for two years, I have worked for Child Welfare, and been a supervisor in a daycare, and every good Canadian gal's rite of passage- Even worked at a Tim Horton's for about 3 months, 3 years ago. That's me-jack of all trades, master of none! Sapphirefrodis |

Sally,
Tim Horton was a hockey player in the NHL, who after he retired began doing philanthropist work for children. I believe he opened his first coffee & donut shop in the 60's sometime. There is one on every corner in Canada, and I believe Wendy's bought a few franchises to open in America. If you get a chance, and you every see one-get a coffee!! However you like it, it's the best coffee you'll ever have!!! Sapphirefrodis |

No, we don't have any here. I never heard of it, I just wondered what kind of business it was. I usually don't like coffee unless I make it. I hate strong coffee and I like real cream (and sugar) in it. Lately I have been using coconut cream coffeemate liquid, more like a cappucino treat than a real cup of coffee.

I've worked as an insurance agent/customer service rep since 1973! My dad was an independent agent and I worked for him for alot of years... then later on for State Farm. Until I met and married my lovely second husband Carlton!

I was working at my temp job doing Medical Transcription and my pt job at retail. I hate retail. It's my first ever retail job and what an eye opener it
is. All the rude, angry, lying customers that come in to rob, cheat, and steal their way to get something for nothing. Then they get mad at me when I ask to
see their IDs (as it is new policy anyone using a debit/credit card must show me an ID along with their card before I can ring the sale). Not only is it for
our safety at the store, but the customer's safety that not ever Tom, Dick, and Harry is using their card. GRRRR, people drive me bonkers.
I am wanting so very badly to find a new FT job where I can drop retail altogether. It's been an eye opening experience for me to say the least. |
