I just got to work this afternoon and had no sooner clocked in for the day when a page came over the PA that I had a phone call....I just found out that my dad is in the hospital...I guess they've got him in Intensive Care....he's been really sick the past several days but felt well enough to make this trip that my folks had planned...but on the way he relapsed and they admitted him this afternoon.
My bosses have let me take as much time off as I need to help out...my mom seems to think he's gonna be fine and will be coming home tomorrow..but I'm still worried and upset...I'm headed home here pretty soon to see whats what......and as soon as I know more I will let you all know......

I know what your going through. I just went through a tough experience with my Dad recently. Prayers and best wishes are on the way from my house to yours

I'm sorry your father is back in the hospital sweetie. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless You and Your Family!

Thanks so much to everyone here....I truly am knocked out by your support....I spoke to my mom again this afternoon and she still thinks that my dad will be able to come home tomorrow...but, I still can't help but worry....my dad has been through so much more than this...an emergency appendectomy...breaking his collarbone after flipping over the handle bars on his motorcycle....surgery on his leg after kicking himself in the shins trying to take off a pair of boots...not to mention an emergency triple by-pass nine years ago.....but it still never fails to scare the *bleep* out of me every time I get a call saying he's in the hospital.

Oh so sorry to hear Dad is sick. I had the same problem a few years ago with my dad and a good friend of mine's dad has just passed away. Not a happy time. Thinking of you and hoping your dad makes a speedy recovery.

I talked to my mother this afternoon just after they wheeled my dad in for surgery....it turns out that the reason he was bleeding and that his *um*..dunno how to say this delicately....eliminations...were black...(yup, you read right...I said black) is that he has an ulcer!
I still don't know how much longer they will keep him in the hospital...and how soon my folks can return home...(they are up in Buffalo, WY...)
but for now things seem to be looking much brighter...

(And I had been so rested and relaxed and ready to return to work after taking a mini vacation...and I had just recieved the happy news that I got a pay raise.....and then this emergency.....I won't relax until they are back in Laramie.)

I just spoke to my mom this morning....they are on their way home as we speak!!!! My dad is doing really well....
When I picked up the phone the first words out of my mom's mouth after the news that they were coming home were "guess who's driving?!"
My dad just had surgery a few days ago and today he is making a 5 hour car trip back home......at the wheel, no less.

Sorry I haven't had a chance to reply on this thread until now, Gail, but I did start praying for your dad after I first read your original post here. I'm so glad to hear that he's doing so much better, and I hope that his health will continue to improve. Now that he knows what the problem was and has had the surgery, I hope that he'll just get better and better! Kind of a bummer way for your parents to spend their vacation, though....

I hope they'll have a chance to have another vacation sometime soon when they are both feeling well and that they'll both be able to enjoy themselves then!
