Hey everybody,

Within the past couple of days, there seems to have been an influx of discussion on certain hot button/controversial topics here and it's come to my attention that at least one member of Monkeeland staff has been contacted by a member stating that they feel uncomfortable with such issues being posted here.

While I feel that everybody did a pretty decent job of keeping discussion on the recent "evolution" thread civilized, I do understand that we've got a pretty diverse group of people here, with lots of different beliefs on lots of different things. I also can understand why such things can make people feel uncomfortable, and to tell you the truth, that's why I acted as quickly as I did to put a note of warning at the beginning of the thread.

There have been lengthy discussions about these kinds of posts among ML staff this week, and the general consensus seems to be that we want to discourage this kind of topic. Topics like religion, politics, abortion...things that notoriously attract heated discussions among people who have passionate opinions about them tends to cause ill-will and hard feelings, and that's not the kind of vibe that we want to project here at Monkeeland.

That isn't to say that we don't want people to post about real life stuff. Things going on in our lives, in our communities and world are still open here to talk about. We just want people to be very careful in what they post so as not to unduly hurt anybody who may have different feelings or opinions than your own. In short--think before you post, always. If ever there is a question about wether a topic is appropriate for discussion here, either I or anybody on ML staff would be happy to respond through PM. Just ask. We're here to help.

It has been asked of me to delete the "evolution" thread, and I will oblige that request. To be very clear, nobody is at fault, and nobody is in trouble. But I do appreciate everyone's cooperation in such matters moving forward. Thanks muchly.

Shane
