This is a shame, cause the Doctor has been very competent so far. Just everything else is going to hell.

*shakes head* Delta and the Bannermen was no better at all. Humans in the future go on 1950's nostalgia trips in a time traveling tour bus to 1959? Come
ON. That was so ridiculously I just couldn't care about the bee-like woman on the run or the evil people chasing her. And I don't know who's been
doing the composing this season, but the music has been dreadful and irritating.
This is a shame, cause the Doctor has been very competent so far. Just everything else is going to hell.

Dragonfire was more like it. Really nasty bad guy, the return of the mercenary character from the Trial of a Timelord whom I loved the heck out of, good
story....the first glimmer of hope that the last stretch here won't be a complete disaster.

Rememberance of the Daleks wasn't bad. Couldn't help notice a stark difference in the look of how everything was filmed. It was much sharper, cleaner,
and looked a whole lot like the new show. The story was decent, I liked how things have progressed with the splitting Dalek factions into something akin to a
racial war. They could have explained how the heck Davros got away from last time, though. I miss Terry Nation. The Daleks haven't been the same without
him. Another thing I noticed was that McCoy is finally putting his own spin on the character....but I'm not sure I liked it. He seems kind of vaguely evil
and maniuplative. Though as I understand it this shift was meant to set up an eventual split in his own history in which there's one 'real' Doctor
and one who becomes the Valeyard, but the cancellation made that never happen.
The Happyness Patrol had so much potential. Orwelling society where unhappyness is punished with death. But it got stupid quickly, between the robot literally made of candy and the random black blues musician. Just when the quality crawls forward, it walks back into ridiculousness.

Oh god, make it stop....
The Silver Nemesis was a complete mess. A woman from the 1600's, %@$@'s, and Cybermen all seek a meteorite which is the key to controlling a powerful statue/robot thing. It was so entirely unneccesary to have 3 malevolent forces out after this. The %@$@'s especially, that was just plain random. It all just came together in a fuddled mess. And once again they kept alluding to some dark secret that never happens. The Greatest Show in the Galaxy rivals Paradise Towers as the worst damned 7th Doctor story. It didn't make any bleeding sense. A 'psychci circus' founded by hippies, which kidnaps people to entertain a family and kills them if they don't? Featuring such random characters as a biker punk, a nerd, a werewolf, and an explorer? Robot clowns and mysterious controlling eye jewels and stone gods behind everything....honestly, I've never been so utterly lost in a story as to what the frick was going on. Even the more compact Wikipedia summary didn't give any sense to it. Was all over the place and just made me angry. I'm so glad there's only 4 left. I'd just say screw it and skip to the movie at this point, but I want to see the final apperance of Lethbridge-Stewart. Hope they don't screw that up....

Heh, yeah pretty much. But I've been doing it for the whole bloody series, may as well keep on for the last few stories. Though I hope when I ramble on
about the new show people actually start paying attention again
I'm glad the writing didn't suck for Battlefield. It was great to see Lethbridge-Stewart back, and he really got to go out being a badass, risking his life to save the whole world. Quite glad they didn't kill him off like the original script apparently called for. Awesome characters should never die. The story itself wasn't bad either, fusing the Doctor Who mythos with that of the King Arthur legends. The Doctor could totally be Merlin, that just works some how. Even if they weren't really clear how. There's an interesting little thing I've noticed about the show since Delta and the Banneram. In that one, they made a point to have Ace find a 'no couloureds welcome' in a window in the 1950's and be very disgusted with it (along with the motivations of a traitorous human later being racist in nature). Ever since then, every story has featured a black character, either in a minor or major supporting role. I have no problem with this what so ever, mind. I'm just curious as to what sparked this apparent little civil rights movement within the series.

Kinda broke my own little 'watch it all in order even if it sucks, damn it!' policy and skipped ahead to the TV movie. Wow. I don't think I had any
real expectations going in, but even so I feel like it blew them all out of the water. That was great. It felt like Doctor Who of old, but with a much
bigger budget and much quicker and epic feel due to the format, and it worked so ridiculously well. I'm glad they brought Sylvester McCoy in to do the
regeneration transition (rather than just jump in with a new Doctor like the new series does). As I figured I would based on the Shada audio play, I loved the
crap out of Paul McGann as the Doctor. He had the perfect mix of energy and a sense of deep knowledge that some of the best Doctors have done.
Heck, I even loved some of the aspects of this story that apparently piss off other fans of old, such as the Doctor actually displaying some sexuality and attraction to a female (always kind of bugged me that he was asexual despite having some really pretty companions), and the maybe true/maybe not idea that he's half human. I mean, that would really explain his love of planet Earth and his tendancy towards human companions, and give an interesting new perspective on his entire character. As the story went along and he really got into the role, Eric Roberts proved to be a really good Master. Properly evil and manipulative, as the role should be. I'm pissed that it's not on DVD in the US due to various licensing issues. This is one of the very few Doctor Who stories I would buy.

Welp, that's that, a rather pitiful end to the great run of the original series.
Ghost Light....how many times must I say it? Horror and Doctor Who DO NOT MIX. Though this was so bad even the director and actors had to ask the writer to explain what the heck was going on. Was a total mess. The Curse of Fenric continued the unfortunate recent tradition of just mixing as random elements into the story as they could. This time it was Nazis, vengeful Viking spirits, vampires/zombies (it was never remotely clear which they were), and issues of faith.....ugh. No thanks. And lastly, Survival. Glad they ended with a Master story, even if it was as not good as the rest of this last run. The cheetah people costumes were laughably bad. The story wasn't a mess of senselessness like most of the stories before it, but it was still pretty meh. Apparently the writer was going to have the cheetah people be regular people with just some cheetah traits and doing all these cat behaviors and expressions, which would have been much better and believable within the context of the story. Not to mention lesbian subtext with Ace, which totally would have worked given her butch tomboy nature. But alas. Suffice it to say, I'm glad I skipped to the movie. I was getting so dejected by the suck, I might have just bypassed it completely, heh. Now it's time for the new series, finally!

Time for the new show and Doc 9, finally
Rose did not fail to impress, as far as an opener to a reboot of such an iconic series goes. The Autons were a curious choice of enemies to introduce the new Doctor with, since they were so decidedly not popular that they hadn't been used since the 70's. Still, made for good stuff, and Eccleston leaves a very good first impression. Really dig the short episode format, it makes stories much more compact and faster paced, not unlike the movie. The End of the World was....ok. Not the best story, and most of the aliens looked silly, especially 'the last human'. But I guess it's to be expected for the second episode to be not quite so grab your attentiony as the first, in any show. The Unquiet Dead. As much as things have changed in the new one, this hasn't: HORROR AND DOCTOR WHO DO NOT MIX! That being said, it was a rare historical episode, which i approve of. I positively loved the Doctor getting all giddy and raving like a fanboy to Charles Dickens about how much he loves his work. That's the kind of stuff which makes these type of stories fun. Though this new Doctor is starting to show signs of being a dick who doesn't care about one or two measely lives....which seems out of character, but I guess would fit in the context of him being bitter about losing his entire peoples. You know what else I love about the shorter format? I can get through stories a lot quicker ^_^

Aliens in London/World War Three was pretty good. The Slitheens were laughably horrid in their design. I seem to be less tollerant of that than with the old
series, heh. I did enjoy how they dealt with the whole Rose being gone thing directly, having her need to explain things to her mom and boyfriend, as opposed
to just ignoring it like when Sarah Jane and Tegan returned to Earth. Shows some of the personal consequences of the lifestyle to someone who isn't The
Doctor for once. What really stuck out was the character Harriet Jones, the perky natural leader who gets mixed up in things. Glad she apparently shows up
again in another episode and the spin-offs, she's too well written and acted to just make her one-off. Also, it was nice to see some of the Doctor's
proper compassion for humanity return.
Dalek was great. They really played well with the whole 'we're the last of our kind and must finish this fight' hatred between the Dalek and the Doctor. Few actors have gotten the chance to just show the Doctor's pure rage, although him torturing the poor Dalek seemed a bit out of character, even if grief was blinding him. Gave me chills when the Dalek was playing on Rose's sympathy, that's the kind of sheer manipulation that make the tin cans so damned great. The angle of Rose having 'infected' the Dalek with emotions was just so well done, really making you sympathize with a creature which is the show's epitime of evil. Was admittedly a bit hokey when it opened its casing 'to feel the sunlight', but overall it worked really well. Not remotely surprise this episode won a bunch of awards. This is not disappointing yet at all. It's like Doctor Who of old, except with more of a flowing narrative. While I'm not complaining about the 'adventure of the week' style to most of the old series, for this 1 episode/one story format, it really just works so well. Can't wait to find out what this 'bad wolf' they keep alluding to is.

Ugh, geeze I've been watching it so much the last 2 days *blush*
The Long Game wasn't bad. Simon Pegg was great, but that's more or less to be expected from him. Monster was a little too special effect and not intimidating, but as this episode is really set up for the finale I can't complain. Was really surprised when Adam got kicked out of the Tardis. Sure he was trying to muck up history for personal gain, but he was like the shortest surviving companion ever, save for the Roman slave girl who didn't even survive a whole serial. Father's Day was great. The issue of a time paradox is not covered enough, and not as directly as this that I can remember (save for the one with two Lethbridge-Stewarts). They did the story very well despite all the sentiment involved. Rose did what we all would, saving her dad. Certainly added a whole lot of depth to her character, and her father's. The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances.....really? Horror again, so soon? Ugh, these ones were definitely a step back, I didn't enjoy them. Jack is certainly an unexpected new companion. If only because they've never had a single character so blatantly bisexual. Not that there's anything wrong with that Boom Town surprised me, mainly because I hated the Slitheen. But they went a different direction, having the lone survivor start to change....but then ruined it with 'haha! I was just lying'. Stupid obvious ending. Bad Wolf/The Parting of Ways was an excellent way to cap off the short lived 9th Doctor. I loved the murderous versions of Big Brother and The Weakest Link. Especially loved that the robot hostess of Link was voiced by the real woman, that's just being a good sport. Real interesting development for this new breed of Daleks, with the emporer developing a god complex. Kind of a shame Eccleson only stuck around for one season. He's probably right that he would be typecast, though. Cause David Tennant will never be seen as anything else again in a lot of people's eyes. Still, he was very competent as the doctor, giving the role a unique mix of charming and really dark. On to season 2!

So I'm finally all caught up on Doctor Who. David Tennant was just freaking awesome as the Doctor and I'm gonna miss him.
I'll get to specific ranty about the new show some other time. But I'll just say that the season 3 and 4 were really disappointing. The young guy who played The Master was GREAT, but the whole story felt incredibly rushed, and the whole Doctor is Jesus thing was...strange. Though I did get shivers of awesome when the Doctor whispered "I forgive you" to the Master. And I'm glad they left the door open for him to return at least. Season 4 was just a case of 'really? The Daleks, *again*?'. Not to mention that a villain of the level of Davros was not handled very well. My main beef was the awful way they chose to write out Donna. She'd proven herself to be my favorite 10th Doctor companion, and to just write her off with 'if she remembers me she'll die' nonsense so there's no chance she'll return was just ridiculously unfair to the character and the fans. At least they've essentially written Rose off for good here and given her a happy ending, which was nice. I guess it's time to check out The Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood, eh?

In my racing through the new show, I somehow forgot the last Christmas and Easter specials. Suffice it to say I rectified this.
The Next Doctor was really good, continuing the tradition of the Christmas specials (save for Voyage of the Damned) being top notch. The 'next' Doctor was fantastic, the bad woman was a classic sort of nasty Who villain, and the whole story was interesting despite the Cybermen and the sort of standard plots they always bring. Planet of the Dead was a mixed bag. The story wasn't very good (since it was literally just him and some tourists on a bus in the desert for an hour), and Lee Evans presence as the one-off UNIT scientist was annoying to say the least. But Michelle Ryan played absolutely one of Tennant's best companions. She was strong, witty, and had genuine chemistry with him. I mean heck, they worked so well together that the eventual romantic interest angle didn't feel remotely forced (unlike the previous companions) because they were so darned alike. I would have been happy if the special was just an hour of them doing a back and forth, heh. The Waters of Mars was finally given an airdate, November 17th. The 10th Doctor's final run really begins then. I hear The Master returns in the final special, and possibly The Rani as well.

Waters of Mars was excellent. The Doctor attempting to change a major part of history, thinking himself a god, and paying dearly for his hubris was a
side of the Doctor few of the actors rarely got to show. I absolutely cannot wait for The End of Time. Tennant's finale is just going to be so utterly
epic.
