I worked in the Billing Dept. back in the late 70's early 80's. They really treated their employees like gold. We were owned by Cambell's Soup Co. and we had a company store where we could buy Pepperidge Farm products as well as Campbell and Swanson frozen dinners dirt cheap! The most rewarding(and HARDEST) job I have had is the one I have now. I work in a nursing home on the long term care floor with people who need total care. I wonder sometimes if I will be able to do this until I turn 65. I joke that they will have to open up a bed for me when I retire! (I am the oldest CNA on the 7-3 shift.

My family gets free membership, daycare is provided on-site and I get paid to exercise and hang out with a bunch of great people. Being the pastor of a church was also really great. I loved being with people in all the phases of their lives and listening to their stories. I remember distinctly going to visit a parishioner who'd just had a baby and she was so grateful when I offered to watch the baby so she could take a shower that she cried! But I was also there when adult children had to tell their parents they could not drive anymore, and when people were near or at death. There was never a dull moment, that's for sure, but it was also very stressful and I'm not sure how productive I would be in doing it now with two small children.

Today I had to stop a child from eating out of the garbage can. Her entire plate of food was sitting on the table but she chose to get up, cross the room, stick her hand in the garbage and eat what she pulled out PS1 WORDS OF WISDOM Everyone seems normal until you get to know them You can't have everything. Where would you put it? I don't get even, I get odder. Stupidity got us into this mess - why can't it get us out? If it ain't broke, fix it till it is. My Reality Check bounced Experience is a wonderful thing. It enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again. Nothing is fool-proof to a sufficiently talented fool

Don't get me wrong, no job is without it's share of frustrations--that's why they call it work. But compared to what I was doing before, there just is no comparison. I enjoy talking with people from all over the world and helping them get outfitted with their sporting goods needs. It makes me happy when I am able to get a customer exactly what they were looking for and know that they're satisfied, or when I am able to rectify a situation where something went wrong for one reason or another. Plus, the perks aren't that bad, either. Two weeks vacation, 8 paid personal days, and every major holiday off paid, as well. The employee discount isn't bad, either. I just bought myself this today on a 40% off employee discount day. Shane Keep an eye out for Public Enemies!

I always said I would walk them until my legs gave out. Aksarben gave out first. They tore it down to make a parking lot. LOL No, they sold it to the University of Nebraska at Omaha. It is all modern buildings now. The easiest job and the one that paid the most was the last one I had. I did inbound telemarketing for five and a half years. I only quit because I moved to Oakland. They wanted me to commute, I said "No way." I worked 4pm to 11pm and I refused to drive 65 miles each way. I did it while I was in the process of moving and was on the left side of the road more than the right. Sally B.

I'm doing graphic design work for the student council at Sault College for the summer- and I don't need to say that when you're an artistic mind, it totally beats fast food or grocery work! The folks I share an office with are awesome, and my boss is a really nice guy. -

You would think my favorite would be when I was 16 I worked for Baskin Robbins in the mall. Loved the product but hated the owner's wife. She used to accuse her husband of having affairs with all of us. Yeah, like 16 year old girls wanted anything to do with a 50 year old man! The one girl used to take money out of the register and buy an album (yup vinyl) every time she worked. She said it was compensation for having to put up with the two of them. Lucky for her there were not many survellience cameras in the 70's. Jill

It's really something,but with the increase in gasoline prices first and foremost,it has effected everything,even people not shopping at the Malls like they used to. And that's the root of the problem.

I've had a lot of jobs over the years and many of them temporary, but I have to admit doing one related to the Internet (where I work in an office with great A/C) is more appealing than working in restaurants, dry cleaners, bakeries, assembly lines, babysitting, etc.

He tried to find a normal other kind of job lately, and was surprised to see the bum luck he was having at getting one. He's the son who seemed to, till nowadays, be able to find a job within days of looking. You might be right Ray, that no one is hiring very much. Rachael

My son works part time while he is in school in the Dietary dept. of the nursing home where I work. His hours have dwindled considerably as they are trying to give the college kids some hours for the summer. My son is going to school to become an electrician and it is a one year school that runs from Sept. to Sept. so he doesn't get much of a break. I guess they figured he wouldn't mind sharing his hours, but he needs gas money and good old mom has to help him! I guess things are tough all over.

It IS my favorite job to date, but I'm not going to lie, customer service just isn't me. Maybe I'm just mean and grumpy, but I just don't care anymore about making customers excited. The majority of the customers are sweethearts, but many of them are just too nasty and I wanna beat them with something. The company motto is "Expect Great Things," but the associates don't. I get waaay too few hours (everyone in our store does, it's ridiculous). I LOVE the people I work with, and they're what makes the difference for me. If it weren't for the rude and nasty customers we encounter, it'd be a good job. But at the same time, due to a lack of hours, I'm trying to find a better, more stable job. With my qualifications it isn't easy, though! Full time jobs are hard to come by around here. Merry

This past week I received calls from two recruiters interested in my portfolio, and two offers via a mutual friend for creating/redesigning websites. Even more exciting is that I met with the second recruiter yesterday afternoon, and after a 3 1/2 hour meeting/interview/assessment she emailed me the details of three current openings for contract-to-perm graphic design work. What is it that Homer says - oh yes, WOOO HOOO!!! -Tom
