Hey, Jill. The DVD issue is an easy one to solve. Rhino owns the commercial rights to the Monkees audio and video, as well as the name and logo, so any legit CD or DVD (since 1994) that carries the Monkees name on it will have the Rhino Records logo. The only real exception to that rule is the "Live Summer Tour" DVD that came out through King Biscuit in 2001 that we've been discussing as of late in the Group forum. It's a legit release, but it's not released through Rhino, so their logo is not present on it. All of Rhino's CDs and DVDs can be found at http://monkees.com/shop/

There are a number of books about the Monkees that have come out through the years. Too many to mention breifly. The most recent, and most thoroughly researched, is The Monkees: The Day-By-Day Story of the 60s TV Pop Sensation by Andrew Sandoval. This is the guy who helms all of the reissue projects that Rhino puts out. While this book reads more like an encyclopedia than anything else, the information packed in its pages is fascinating, and there are tons of rare and never before seen photos included, as well. I might also recommend the Hey, Hey We're The Monkees coffee table book compiled by Harold Bronson in 1996. Then of course, both Micky and Davy have written their own autobiographies that you can purchase directly from their own websites. There is a Michael Nesmith biography out there as well that depending on who you talk to will either praise it or trash it. It certainly is a no holds barred account of Nez's life, recounting the good and the not so good stuff.

The only book I would steer clear of is Monkeemania: The Story Of The Monkees by Glen A. Baker. This one is full of inaccuracies and half-truths, and is really very poorly researched. Stick with Sandoval's book. He won't steer you wrong.

There are actually 2 boxed sets of Monkees episodes. One for season one and one for season two. Season one had 32 episodes, and season two had 26. The season two box also has the hour long "33 1/3 Revolutions Per Monkee" special from 1969 included as a bonus.
