Last night my husband and I saw Tina Turner and her band at Arco Arena in Sacramento. We weren't off to a real auspicious start, as previously that day I'd had to attend an out of town funeral (with my little one in tow) and my husband's wallet was stolen. At least we had something fun to look forward to that night! However, I must add that I was quite tired by the time we got there and probably didn't take as much notice of things as I should have. Oh well...
The concert was scheduled to start at 7:30, with no opening act. However, it was a little after eight o'clock before the lights dimmed. Tina began her first number (and to my shame, I'm not sure what it was) with the curtain still closed. Then as it rose, there she was, wiggling her still-hot little booty (my husband's words, not mine
After "Simply The Best", we thought the concert was over but the people next to us had heard from friends who'd seen the previous night's
show in San Jose that there were two songs left. So to our surprise, this crane type thing pops out of nowhere and she walks out on it over the audience for
"Nutbush City Limits!" I mean, she danced on this thing, walked backwards on it, bent over the railing-all in high heels! It was really pretty
spectacular and she certainly spared no expense with the set! The band was excellent as well as the back-up sings and dancers. Speaking of dancers, I just
have to say that Tina's still got it going on. I mean, this lady has the moves and facial expressions to go along with them! Her voice is still in good
form and she looks better at 68 than I do at 36.
We actually didn't stay for the final number, which was a ballad, because we wanted to beat the rush to the parking lot. It was already 11:00 (there had
been a half hour intermission) and we wanted to be home by midnight. All in all, a fantastic show by a very talented later and her supporting cast!
I can't think of much else to add but if anyone has a question it might spark a memory, so feel free to ask!
