I'm back from Davy's show-it was fantastic! The venue is a small dinner theater. While we waited for the show to start they played Monkees songs over the sound system while we ordered drinks and food. It was fun to be among other Monkees fans. One guy said he has seen every show Peter, Micky and Davy have done this year! The audience was all ages from early 20's to early 80s! Most of the were really great. Another guy said he talked to Micky in Nashville a few weeks back and asked him if there would be a 45th Anniversary reunion and said Micky smiled and said "You never know!". So take that anyway you like.
. He was really great though. If any of you have
young kids he mentioned he is going to be a guest voice on Spongebob Squarepants soon. He also said he has shows coming up in Phoenix and Las Vegas.
Davy went on around 8:30 and stayed for about 2 hours. It really was an "intimate" evening. The room held about 100 and it was nearly full. Our table was about 10 feet away from him. He looked and sounded fantastic! He did not open his shirt but he did poke fun at himself for having "manboobs" a couple of times. His jokes were very funny but I can't repeat any of them because the mods would yell at me. Yes his humor was very adult (not graphic or crude and no profanity) but this was a 21+ club so it was appropriate. He talked about Mike a bit, saying how talented he thought he was, and brought Peter up several times. all complimentary or poking affectionate fun at him (once about Peter's ears, once about Peter being older than him
). The people next to us got excited at all the Peter mentions and thought for sure he must
be there, but alas he wasn't. He only mentioned Micky once ("If you know these great old Monkees songs, sing along with me-if you don't,
you're automatically entered into the Micky Dolenz look-a-like contest happening at the end of the show!"). He mentioned the show he did with David
Cassidy and said his signature song should be changed to "I Think I Love Me"
He sang all the old Monkee classics, a few old standards, "Consider Yourself" and two of his solo songs ("Girl" and "Rainy
Jane"). While he sang, home movies and clips from the Monkees showed on a screen behind him. He also danced a lot-he hasn't lost it at all! Oh and
there was a camera man there filming the whole thing. He interviewed some of us after the show including me. He asked me what my favorite Monkees song was and
if I had any old Monkees records. I don't know where or when it'll be showed though.
The meet and greet was nice. He changed into a bright yellow sweater with a big blue D on it and put on his glasses. He wasn't roped off but they wouldn't let anyone take a photo with him, although he did shake hands and give hugs. I gave him my Monkees Monthly with him and his rabbits on the cover and he loved it! He said "Wow look at this!" and just gazed at it for awhile with a wistful look on his face. I said "Don't worry, you're still that cute!" and he looked at me and smiled. He really was a doll. Here's the Monkees Monthly he signed:
And him looking at it:
Concert pics: (Sorry about the varying quality. The lighting kept changing and Davy didn't stand still for long!
Since I wasn't able to get a pic with him, here's me (I am so NOT photogenic!!)
But wait...there's more!
Here are a few videos of the show. The video quality is not too good-my digital camera isn't too good with video, and the guy in front of me kept getting in the way. The audio is pretty good though so I hope you still enjoy!
