Has anyone ever heard the Beatles, Revolution #9, from the White Album? It's so bizarre. I wonder why they put that on the White Album?

Oh I totally digg this song. I'm just trying to interpret it. What's the meaning behind it? Was it supposed to be choas and disorder? That's what I
get out of it.

"Revolution #9" was basically a John & Yoko track. It was called "Avante Garde" music. If you take a look at Johns solo albums from
1968 & 1969 you will see that all of them are avante garde. John didn't actually jut a real song on his solo albums until 1970.
Why did Paul,George & Ringo not stop this track from getting on the "White Album"? Mostly because John was such a strong/intimidating presence when he started having Yoko around that the other Beatles didn't say a word.

I think Plastic Ono Band came a bit later, Rachael, but I'm no expert! That being said, "Revolution #9" always creeped me out. (Quel wuss, n'est-ce pas?) |

I had read once that John insisted "Revolution 9" go on the White Album because Paul insisted that "Ob La Di, Ob La Da" go on as well.
Neither Beatle cared for the other's song, so instead of them agreeing to leave both off they reached a compromise by putting both on.
It's a shame because two excellent George compositions would have made for stronger choices. "Not Guilty" was recorded by the band but left off at the last minute, while "Sour Milk Sea" was given to Jackie Lomax to record (with the same musicians as on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" - Clapton, Paul, George, and Ringo).

George harrison went out of town and paul and john put the song lineup together and they excluded a couple of georges songs, they would have been better than REV #9 i can tell you that much..paul didn't like REV #9... |

As a kid I was scared of that song, now I love it! A friend of mine was absolutely blown away when I played that song for the first time to him. (He likes kind
of avantgarde stuff, indiependent stuff from Nick Cave, Tom Waits etc.) I think it only shows once more what different styles they could do. I'm glad they
put it out (after all). I've read "Carnival Of Light" (unreleased) is very similiar...would be very interesting to hear it.
Yesterday I was very disappointed when I tried to listen to the new remastered songs of the Beatles at a big record store- in their repertoire they only had the "old" versions- and then compressed, too! It was nearly unlistenable. I really wonder how they don't care about that- anybody who isn't aware of that now thinks the remastering wasn't a big deal..? |
